I forget what this formation is called, but I think of it as Arizona Teapot Dome - no relation to the 19th century Wyoming scandal.

In such a wide open place, this photo seems a bit clausterphobic - descending into the canyon I was backed by sandstone walls, and the clouds seemed to hang low and heavy over the area, providing an odd, encapsulated feel.

Another pre-hike sunrise shot. Each time I have been here before the canyon is flooded with light and photos from the rim, regardless of how zoomed in I get, just seem to be washed out with light. I was lucky to get some days with cloud cover to add variety to the light.
